Before you replace anything
Plenty of systems we are asked to replace can be repaired for a fraction of the cost. We will tell you honestly which one you have. If your air conditioner has just stopped, start with AC repair and let us diagnose it first.
Repair or replace: how we actually decide
Three things settle it, and none of them is the age of the system on its own.
What has failed. A capacitor or a contactor is a repair at almost any age. A failed compressor or a leaking evaporator coil on an older system is a genuine decision, because you are spending a significant share of a replacement on a system that has other parts of the same vintage.
How old it is. In this climate systems run far more hours than the same equipment would further north, so a Houston air conditioner ages faster than the label suggests. Once a system is past about fifteen years, we start being honest with you about what the next few summers look like.
How long you are staying. If you are moving in two years, the arithmetic is different from staying for fifteen. We will say so.

What actually changes the price of a replacement
We do not quote air conditioners from a price list, and it is worth knowing why. Two houses on the same street can need meaningfully different jobs.

Frequently asked questions
How long does an AC system last in Houston?
Less than the label suggests. Systems here run many more hours a year than the same equipment would further north, so fifteen years is a realistic point to start planning rather than a hard limit. A well-maintained system will comfortably outlast a neglected one.
Should I repair or replace my air conditioner?
It depends on what failed, how old the system is and how long you are staying. A capacitor is a repair at almost any age. A compressor or a leaking coil on a fifteen-year-old system is a real decision. We will tell you honestly which one you are looking at.
Why will you not quote over the phone?
Because sizing, ductwork, attic access, electrical supply and drainage all change the job, and none of them can be assessed down a phone line. A number given without seeing the house is a number that changes later, which helps nobody.
Is a bigger air conditioner better?
No, and on the Gulf Coast it is actively worse. An oversized system cools the air quickly, shuts off, and never runs long enough to remove much moisture. You end up with a house that is cold and clammy, and a compressor that wears out faster from short cycling.
Do you offer financing on a new system?
Yes, subject to approved credit. It is worth asking about before deciding what to fit, because it sometimes changes which option makes sense.
Do I have to replace the ductwork too?
Not always, but it has to be assessed. New equipment on leaking or undersized ducts will not deliver what it is rated for, and in some houses the ducts were the real problem all along.
When is the best time to replace an air conditioner?
Before it fails. A planned changeout in a shoulder month gives you time to compare options and us time to schedule the work properly. Replacing in August, in a hot house, under pressure, is the most expensive way to do it.
