Castle AC and Heating technician with an American Standard air conditioning condenser ready for a maintenance visit in Houston

Preventative HVAC Maintenance in Houston

QUICK ANSWER

Castle Air Conditioning & Heating maintains home systems twice a year, cooling in spring and heating in fall, and commercial equipment quarterly. Our Set It and Forget It Assurance Plan pre-schedules those visits, reminds you automatically when one is due, and takes 10% off any work we carry out for you during the year. Call or text (713) 667-7606 and we will quote it for your system.

The Set It and Forget It Assurance Plan

Most people do not skip maintenance on purpose. They just never get round to booking it, and then the system fails in July. The plan exists to take the remembering off your hands.

What the plan does

  • Books the visits in advance, at the right time of year, so the cooling service happens before the season rather than during it.
  • Reminds you automatically when a visit is due. Nobody has to keep a note in a diary.
  • Takes 10% off any work we carry out for you through the year, repairs included.

It is a prepaid plan for homes, paid once up front and covering the year’s visits. Commercial agreements work differently, and that is set out below.

What we check on a maintenance visit

A maintenance visit is not a quick look and a sticker on the side of the unit. It is a test of how the system is actually performing, and it is where problems get caught while they are still small.

What we check Why it matters
System temperatures and pressures The clearest early sign that a system is working harder than it should be.
Airflow tests Weak airflow makes a coil too cold, which is what causes a system to freeze up in the middle of summer.
Refrigerant levels On air conditioners and heat pumps. A system low on refrigerant often still blows cool air while barely removing any moisture.
Indoor and outdoor coils A dirty coil costs efficiency immediately and shortens the life of the compressor over time.
Condensate drain The single most common summer call we take in Houston. A blocked drain in an attic ends up coming through a ceiling. Here is how to clear a clogged drain line yourself.
Ventilation and ducts Leaking or restricted ductwork is often the real reason one room never cools properly.
Electrical parts Compressor, fan motors, capacitors and contactors. A weak capacitor found in spring is a small part. Found in July it is a hot house and a wait.
Surge protectors and float switches The float switch is what shuts the system off before water reaches your ceiling, so it is worth knowing it works.
Safety equipment Particularly on furnaces and electric heaters, where a fault is a safety matter rather than a comfort one.
Cleanliness and lubrication The unglamorous part, and the reason equipment reaches the end of its expected life rather than stopping short of it.

We also leave time to talk. A maintenance visit is a good moment to ask about the west-facing room that never cools properly, whether a smart thermostat would help, or whether a system that is limping is worth keeping another season. You get a straight answer either way.

Homes and businesses are on different schedules

Commercial equipment moves far more air, runs far longer hours and is usually harder to reach once something has gone wrong, so it needs looking at more often.

Homes Businesses
How often Twice a year, cooling in spring and heating in fall Quarterly
How it is billed Prepaid once up front for the year Per visit, so the cost stays tied to the work done on your building
Discount on other work 10% off through the year Not included, because commercial is billed per visit rather than as a single fee
Reminders Automatic on both. The system tells you when a visit is due.

If you run a business, our commercial HVAC page covers rooftop units, packaged systems and server-room cooling in more detail.

What maintenance actually saves you

Four things, in the order they tend to matter.

The repair you do not have. Most of the expensive failures we are called out to in July were visible as a weak part or a dirty coil in March. Catching one is the whole argument for the plan.

Running costs. A system with clean coils, correct refrigerant and unrestricted airflow does the same job using less electricity. In a climate where the cooling season runs from April to October, that difference compounds.

The life of the equipment. A neglected system does not usually fail dramatically. It wears out early, and replacement arrives years before it needed to.

Your warranty. Manufacturers generally expect equipment to have been maintained, and some require evidence of annual service before honoring a claim. A documented visit each year is worth keeping for that alone.

When the visits happen

Cooling service between February and April, before the first properly hot week. Heating service in October or November, ahead of the first cold snap. Both are deliberately timed to fall outside the rush, when we can give you a slot that suits you rather than the first one available.

Frequently asked questions

What does the Set It and Forget It Assurance Plan include?

Pre-scheduled maintenance visits at the right time of year, an automatic reminder when one is due, a full performance check of the system, and 10% off any work we carry out for you during the year. For a home that is two visits, cooling in spring and heating in fall.

How much does the plan cost?

It depends on the system, and on how many units a property has. Call or text (713) 667-7606 and we will quote it for what you actually have rather than from a price list.

Do I get a discount on repairs if I am on the plan?

Yes. Home plan customers get 10% off any work we carry out through the year, including repairs. Commercial agreements are billed per visit rather than as a single up-front fee, so the discount does not apply to those.

How often should HVAC be maintained in Houston?

Twice a year for a home system and quarterly for commercial equipment. Houston’s cooling season runs roughly April through October, so systems here accumulate a great deal more runtime than the same equipment would further north.

Do I have to remember to book the visits?

No. That is the point of the plan. The visits are scheduled in advance and the system reminds you automatically when one is due.

Can I book a one-off tune-up instead of a plan?

Yes. A single maintenance visit is perfectly fine, and plenty of people start that way. The plan simply means the timing is handled for you and the discount applies to anything else we do that year.

My system is old. Is maintenance still worth it?

Usually, and it also buys you information. On older equipment a maintenance visit is often where we can tell you honestly how much life is realistically left, so a replacement becomes something you plan for rather than something that happens to you in August.

What if you find something wrong during the visit?

We tell you what we found, what it needs and what it will cost, and you decide. Nothing gets done without a quote first. If it can safely wait, we will say so.

Does maintenance affect my warranty?

It can. Manufacturers generally expect equipment to have been maintained, and some require evidence of annual service before honoring a claim. Keeping a record of your visits is worth doing for that reason alone.
